The Steam client is not a port with a separate economy. It is the same Epic Seven account, the same servers and the same events, wrapped in a PC interface. That makes the comparison less about which version is "better" and more about where each one fits: the phone for dailies and idle farming, the PC for long sessions, drafting and reading tooltips.

There are still real differences. Some are conveniences, some are restrictions, and one of them decides whether you can play with your old save at all.

The comparison at a glance

Area Steam (PC) Mobile
Account Same account via STOVE conversion Native STOVE or social login
Cross-play Yes Yes
Servers Same, including Foundry Same, including Foundry
Controls Mouse and keyboard Touch
Screen Scalable window, up to desktop resolution Phone or tablet screen
Performance Depends on PC; no thermal throttling Depends on device; heat and battery limits
Purchases Steam wallet App store or Google Play
Updates Steam client update App store update
Portability Desktop or laptop Anywhere
Japanese voice at launch Not available Available depending on pack

The save is shared, so progress made on Steam appears on mobile after a sync. There is no separate PC server and no cross-save toggle to enable.

Accounts and cross-play

Cross-play is the headline feature, and it works the way most players expect: one login, one roster, two clients. The catch is the conversion step. A Steam first login creates a temporary Steam account unless the player converts an existing STOVE account first.

That temporary account is the source of most "my progress is gone" reports on launch day. It is not gone; the client is simply signed into the wrong identity. The fix is to withdraw the temporary account and convert the original one through STOVE. Our account transfer guide covers the order in detail.

Link only your own account

Do not link a Steam account to a STOVE account you do not own, and do not use family sharing to access someone else's save. The conversion binds the game account to a login identity, not to a PC.

Controls and interface

The PC client keeps the mobile layout but adds mouse hover, keyboard shortcuts and a larger readable area. Tooltips are easier to inspect, team editing is faster, and the RTA draft screen benefits from having every hero visible at once.

The mobile client is still better for one-handed play. Daily missions, dispatch, mailbox collection and quick Arena matches take less time on a phone because the flow is built around taps. Switching between the two is seamless once the account is linked.

Task Better on Steam Better on mobile
RTA drafting Yes No
Gear comparison Yes No
Daily chores No Yes
Long Hunt sessions Yes No
Playing away from home No Yes
Reading hero kits Yes No

Performance and heat

A PC does not throttle the way a phone does. Long Hunt sessions, repeated Abyss attempts and RTA marathons are more comfortable on Steam because the client can hold frame rate without draining a battery.

That does not mean any PC can run it. The Steam listing is free to play and the client is not demanding by modern standards, but integrated graphics and older laptops can still struggle at high resolution. If the game stutters, lower the resolution and disable background overlays before blaming the server.

On mobile, performance depends on the device, the case and the ambient temperature. A phone that runs the game well in winter can drop frames in summer. The Steam client removes that variable.

Purchases and currency

The shop is the same, but the payment path is not. Steam purchases use the Steam wallet and regional Steam pricing. Mobile purchases use the app store or Google Play, with their own regional prices and refund rules.

This matters for two reasons. First, prices can differ between storefronts because of regional pricing and platform fees. Second, refund handling is controlled by the storefront, not by Epic Seven support. If a purchase fails on Steam, the receipt lives in Steam; if it fails on mobile, it lives in the app store.

Skystones, Bookmarks and event currencies remain on the account regardless of where they were bought. Switching clients does not switch the wallet.

Languages and voice-over

The Steam version supports text in Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Thai. Japanese voice-over was missing at launch and is planned to return in a later update.

Mobile players may already have the Japanese voice pack installed. On Steam, check the in-game audio settings after the first launch; the client may default to English or Korean voice depending on the store language.

Foundry and matchmaking

Foundry is available on both clients because it is a server, not a platform. The difference is who you meet. Foundry's Draft Arena, Guild War and World Arena matchmaking starts with Foundry players only, and that pool is shared across Steam and mobile.

An existing account that converts to Steam does not move to Foundry automatically. Server and login method are separate choices. If you want the launch progression race, start a new character on Foundry; if you want your old roster, stay on your current server.

Which client should you use?

Use Steam as your main client if you care about RTA, gear management or long farming sessions. The larger screen and mouse controls reduce misclicks, and the PC stays cool during a two-hour Hunt session.

Keep the mobile client installed for dailies, mailbox collection and dispatch. The account is the same, so there is no penalty for switching. Most active players end up using both: PC for the parts that need attention, phone for the parts that do not.

New players starting on Steam should begin with the Steam beginner guide, then use the launch rewards checklist so the first week's free summons are not wasted.

FAQ

Does Epic Seven on Steam share progress with mobile?

Yes, once the account is linked to STOVE. The same account can be used on both platforms, and progress is stored on the server.

Can I play on Steam without a phone?

Yes. You need a Steam account and a STOVE account for linking, but the game itself runs on PC.

Is the Steam version better for rerolling?

Not really. A new Steam account is required for each fresh start, and the launch free summons reduce the value of rerolling. Selective Summon remains the more controlled way to fix an opening roster.
