A single Epic Seven tier list is usually a lie. The hero that carries a new account through Wyvern is not the hero that wins an RTA draft, and the hero that clears Abyss 105 may be mediocre in Arena defense. The useful question is not "who is the best hero" but "which hero is best for the content I am actually doing this month".

This list separates the two jobs. The PvE column measures account value: how much progression a hero unlocks per unit of gear. The PvP column measures presence in the current RTA and Arena pool, using pick rate and role scarcity rather than raw damage.

Rankings move with patches

Rankings reflect the first Steam season and the current balance patch. A balance update can move a hero two tiers; the role explanation matters more than the letter.

How the tiers work

Tier Meaning
S Defines a team or solves a problem no one else solves as well
A Strong in the role, replaceable with effort
B Usable, but needs specific gear or team support
C Niche or outclassed; build only for a specific fight

A hero can be S in PvE and B in PvP. That is not a contradiction; it is the point.

What the PvE list is really saying

The top of the list is built around Hunts, not story. Story clears are a tutorial; gear comes from Hunts, and the first Hunt that matters is Wyvern because Speed sets are universally useful.

Sigret, Brieg, Furious and Muwi form a coherent Wyvern core with different jobs. That is why they rank above heroes with higher raw damage. A team of four strong damage dealers fails Wyvern 13; a team with a tank, two debuffers and one damage dealer clears it.

The second cluster is Abyss and event content. Tamarinne, Destina and Angelic Montmorancy solve survival and debuff problems, while Commander Lorina and Specter Tenebria provide the sustained damage that long floors require.

Bellona and Vivian sit high because AoE is a gate in Banshee and Azimanak. A single-target roster can clear Wyvern and still stall on egg phases and add waves.

Build a Hunt team first

Build one Hunt team before building a "tier list" team. A B-tier hero with +15 gear clears more content than an S-tier hero with leftovers.

PvP tier list

Fallen Cecilia Dark Knight S High pick rate, defensive utility and team protection
Boss Arunka Fire Warrior S Premium damage with a strong draft presence
Genesis Ras Earth Knight S Support, CR manipulation and durability
School Nurse Yulha Earth Soul Weaver S Healing and sustain that fits most drafts
Belian Dark Knight S Control and punishment against skill-heavy teams
Setsuka Ice Thief A Speed pressure and debuff presence
Rinak Fire Soul Weaver A Support with strong tempo tools
Empyrean Ilynav Fire Knight A Front-line pressure and protection
Frieren Ice Mage A Damage and utility in the current pool
Ruele Light Soul Weaver A Revive and sustain for stall and defense
Harsetti Dark Mage A Debuff control and disruption
Zio Dark Thief A Speed and turn-order pressure
Sea Phantom Politis Ice Mage A Anti-support pressure in RTA
Politis Fire Mage A Cleanse punishment and disruption
Cerise Ice Ranger A Speed control and debuff setup
Faithless Lidica Light Ranger A CR manipulation and opener pressure
Conqueror Lilias Fire Knight A Aggressive support and CR push
Specter Tenebria Dark Mage A Debuff damage that punishes slow teams
Arbiter Vildred Dark Thief A Resurrection threat and cleave pressure
Ruele of Light Light Soul Weaver A Durable support for long fights

Pick rate is not the same as win rate. A hero with a 40% pick rate can be a comfortable default rather than an auto-win, and a low-pick specialist can be the correct answer in a specific draft. Use the table to identify role gaps, then check the RTA tier list for ban and counter logic.

Reading the PvP list

The top tier is dominated by flexible support and defensive units because RTA drafts reward teams that can survive the first two turns. Fallen Cecilia, Genesis Ras and School Nurse Yulha appear often because they fit multiple draft shapes, not because they deal the most damage.

Damage dealers move up and down with the speed meta. Boss Arunka and Belian are strong when the draft gives them room to act; they are much worse when the opponent has a faster opener and a reliable strip.

If you are building for Arena defense rather than RTA, the priorities change again. Defense teams want threat density and speed traps, not the same balanced composition that wins a draft. The Arena defense guide covers that separately.

The heroes worth building first

For a new account, the build order matters more than the tier.

  1. Sigret if you have her. She turns Wyvern from a project into a farm.
  2. Brieg and Furious even if they are not your favourite characters. They enable the team.
  3. Tamarinne or Destina for story, Abyss and general survival.
  4. Bellona or Vivian for AoE content.
  5. Fallen Cecilia or Genesis Ras only when you start taking RTA seriously.

A new player who builds Sigret, Brieg, Furious, Muwi and one healer has a functional account. A new player who builds five S-tier PvP heroes has five heroes and no gear.

What changes the ranking

Three things move a hero between tiers:

  • Gear threshold. Some heroes need 250+ speed to function; below that they are a liability.
  • Team support. Belian and Specter Tenebria change dramatically with the right artifacts and debuff partners.
  • Content. Abyss, Hunt 13 and RTA ask different questions. A hero can be the best answer to one and a mediocre answer to another.

Balance patches also matter. Treat this list as a snapshot of the current season, not a permanent ranking. When a patch changes a skill multiplier or a cooldown, the role description tells you whether the hero's job survived.

FAQ

Who is the best hero in Epic Seven right now?

There is no single best hero. Sigret is the most valuable PvE pick for Wyvern, while Fallen Cecilia and Boss Arunka define the current RTA pick rate. The right pick depends on the content you are building toward.

Is the tier list for PvE or PvP?

Both are separated. PvE ranks are based on Hunt, Abyss and story value; PvP ranks use current RTA pick rates and matchup coverage.

How often does the tier list change?

It should be rechecked after every balance patch and season reset. Pick rates move faster than raw hero power, especially in RTA.
